Local Fundraiser for Hoboken Shelter STOPPED Due to Safety and Management Concerns

A recent Go Fund Me Fundraiser organized by local Eagle Scouts to support Hoboken Shelter has been halted after alarming concerns were raised about the shelters management and promotional practices.

Concerns surfaced when it was discovered that the shelters publicity materials, Including their Instagram page and Hudson Gives campaign, featured individuals with dangerous criminal backgrounds . These revelations were brought to the attention of Melinda Vickerman the shelters publicity coordinator and Mike Russo a candidate for local Mayor in 2025. Neither took action to address the issues .

Further troubling reports indicate that the shelters ownership has allegedly cut corners on safety and staffing, allowing residents with criminal histories to exert control over others. Victims of assault and theft have reportedly been threatened with eviction if they contact law enforcement raising serious concerns about resident safety and shelter policies .

It’s particularly concerning that the Hoboken Police Department, despite being aware of these issues, has not intervened in any meaningful way. In contrast, the Eagle Scouts demonstrated integrity and swift action in response to these allegations. The situation raises the question of weather local authorities could learn from the example by these young community leaders, rather than appearing to assist or overlook possible obstruction of justice on behalf of the shelter .

This election season these serious allegations must be addressed to protect the dignity and safety of all shelter residents and the community.

Community members and donors are urged to seek transparency and accountability from shelter leadership. Local authorities and oversight agencies are encouraged to investigate these claims to ensure the shelter operates in compliance with ethical and legal standards .
